Default modifying a strong ale kit

I was ordering some equipment and decided to throw on a strong ale kit. but now I'm thinking that its a little too similar to the brown ale I have planned, so I was considering running to the LHBS and getting some more hops and specialty malts and stuff to modify the strong ale kit into an imperial stout or a barley wine or something. Any opinions or suggestions?

I'm not sure, but I think you'll generally find strong ales to be much lighter in flavour and colour than a brown ale. I would leave the kit as is or maybe add a bit more aroma hop.
