So a guy at work was telling me about this stuff Mamajuana. It sounded alot like some stuff my Jamaican neighbor gave to me a few years back, but the called it Root juice. It wasn't too bad at all but had a very different flavor to it, definitely bitter and does have a red bull-ish type effect. So After I got a good laugh about I was thinking, wonder if this would be a good post fermentation adjunct? The star anise would definitely add some bitterness.

So I was thinking something like a "El Para Palo Imperial Porter", has any one actually tried this before? If it is what I think it is it may actually be pretty good in small amounts.

Or am I just crazy?

I should add I am deep into a bottle of double arrogant bastard.... Sorry, no electrical advice tonight!:drunk:

every time i read "mamajuana" in that article i kept thinking it said "marijuana" and it kept messing me up... but back to the question, its mixed with a bunch of other stuff so i dont see why it wouldnt go with beer would be worth a little expirament IMO

That stuff is like Caribbean Jagermeister. The first sip is rough, from there on it is smooth sailing.

Ooh, yeah! All right!
We're jammin':
I wanna jam it wid you.
We're jammin', jammin',
And I hope you like jammin', too.

Swampers
I have a bottle that I brought back from the Dominican Republic (Honeymoon). Just a plain bottle of roots in it. We were told to add Honey, Sweet Red wine & and if I recall Rum. (I think Vodka would be better MHO)
I also agree...The 1st one little rought but afterwards... YEAAH HAAAA....
We haven't made it yet nor really plan on it. Its more or a convo piece when people come over. That and we don't drink as much as we use to. Better yet I'm looking for a Flavored Stout to make since the wife is all about that now days. Anyone have a coffee stout they'd like to share. (please reply via email [email protected] due to I don't like hyjacking threads like this)

I just had to read and comment on this!
If it works out let me know!!!!
CHEER!

BTW Looking at the bottle and ingredients are:
Timacle, Osua, Marabell, Palo de Maguel, Palo Indio, Bohuco, Brasil, Canelilla
I'll see if I can get a pic up for ya!

mamajuana is a Domincan thing. It is a bunch of wood, herbs, roots, and such. The original recipe calls for a male turtles reproductive organ too .... ...

If made properly it is good stuff. It has a nice anise flavor to it. When you get your jug kit fill it with sweet red wine and honey, then let it sit for a couple weeks. Pour it out then add a little sweet red wine, some dominican rum, and honey. Shake the bottle up every couple days. It is ready to go within a couple weeks. You can reuse the mix in the bottle for a long time. My first kit went a couple years. It just got better with age. Last time I looked there was a person selling the jugs with the wood, root, and herb mix on ebay. I brought mine home my last trip to the DR

Huh! Michigan people must go there often. Where abouts are you in Michigan?
the turtle thing I've never heard of? But it wouldn't have stoped me from trying it!

Yes, indeed the anus from the male turtle does in fact give it a distinct taste :rockin:

THREAD NECRO!!!!!

I have a good reason, promise ;)

The SO and I picked up a bottle of Mamajuana in Punta Cana a couple days ago on vacation and thinking of doing the same thing. Adding the wood and roots to a secondary of something and letting it sit for a month or so.

So not sure what kind of brew to add this too. Thinking a red or dark ale?

Suggestions and tactics would be welcome! :mug:

SAME! The first time we had it was at a little stand by the beach and even though my SO speaks Spanish fluently (More Castilian Spanish) it was a new word we hadn't heard before. I thought he was referring to weed and was like.... uh ok!

The dude behind the bar laughed and held up a clear glass wine jug full of what looked like roots, bark and messy wood chips. My brain went DING! HOME BOOZE! Poured us out a couple shots comp and we loved it! :rockin:

So we brought a bottle home from Duty Free with a couple cans of Presidente (not bad in the DR climate, not bad at all :) )

AKA "Dominican Viagra"

Yes.

Yes it is :D
