so how did this age? what's the point of the chicken in this from a historical perspective (i.e. why did they dry hop with a chicken?).

Obviously it was because they wanted a big cock aroma, but without making the beer taste like cock.

I brewed something like this but I used duck and turkey along with the chicken. I'm calling it "Turdrunken" haha. It actually is not to bad, it's not great but it did exceed my very low expectations.
