just wandering what temp to ferment the starter at?

ferment it at the normal ferment temp for the yeast strain that you are using... my lager yeasts I start at 55 deg.

Mr Malty recommends propagating you lager yeast in the low 70s for the best balace between healthy yeast and good growth. In this case you will definitely want to decant the spent wort before pitching.
