Default lactose

putting together a stout and had a question about lactose

10 gal
18 lb maris otter
1lb choc
1lb roast (or less?)
.5 lb black pat
3lb oat flakes
2 lb barley flakes

mash at 156-157

est 1.068

london ale yeast (huge starter)

how would I calculate a FG if I use 4 oz lactose

and do I add it at the end of the boil

I have never used lactose before

thanks
-ander

ppg of lactose is listed at 1.035 - so if you added 1 lb of lactose to 1 gallon water, the gravity would be 1.035.

Are you trying for a sweet stout? 4 oz of lactose in 10 gallons is not going to make a noticeable taste difference.

I've used a pound of lactose in a 5 gallon batch and it turned out great. As far as when to add it, add it to the boil, in the last 15 minutes or so.
