Default It's brew time..

I have the day off work tomorrow and have every hour dedicated to my first all grain brew.

My first brew is to be Orfy's Hobgoblin. I'm gonna jot down a brew schedule tonight and get everything straight in my head, so it all goes as smoothly as possible.

I intend to complete the recipe exactly as per the instructions posted with the recipe in terms of the mash temp, double sparge etc. I have read Bobby M's AG primer and see the double batch sparge technique as the one I will be using most often anyway.

Any tips from anybody who has tried this recipe?

Also, I'm prepared for the possibility of my efficiency not being great, although it could be (I read the efficiency stickies too), but I was considering adding 1lb of grain extra on top of the recipe suggested amount to offset this? I guess I should complete the recipe as suggested, check my efficiency then make any adjustments in my next brew. Don't wanna create problems before there are any, but just trying to anticipate any issues as I want the brew to go well.

Bottom line, tomorrow I break my all-grain cherry and I'm excited

It's happenning, I'm mashing as we speak

In typical style, there had to be some drama! I discovered a small leak in the mash tun while cleaning it, so had to add an extra washer to the setup to make it seal!

The smell of mashing...it's incredible. I wanna brew every day. Managed to hit 68c (154f ish) dead on, by complete fluke as my strike temp was a couple of degrees less than I wanted by the time I was ready to dough in. Dough balls!!! I think I will try whisking those suckers next time, eveything seemed to stick together.

This beats work any day!

Back to the brew.

Just took a pic of the mash as I checked temp 30 mins in. Showed 66.7c from 68, so added about 2 pints at 80c and temp then 68.1c.

Im not a paid member here, if it lets me put the pic on after I'm all done, they will be on later.

I love brewing!

Blew back into the outlet on my tun and managed to get this moving. Just realised though that I can only lauter very slowly as the diameter of my pipe going through my mlt wall is pretty slim. I am gonna get a more appropriate part that allows me to draw the liquid off quicker.

Still, things are going ok for 1st AG.

Just took tried to put some photos on of my mash tun in action as well as my now vigourously fermenting Hob Goblin, but I don't have these options in my post, probably because I'm not a paid member.

I'm not very computer savvy, but I've hosted pictures on photobucket, and then placed them in posts on here. Try that. I'd love to see pictures!
