Default Irish Moss: rehydrate or not?

I never rehydrate my Irish Moss, but now I find out that some people do. So what's the deal with rehydrating Irish Moss? Is it better to do it or not?

I don't see what difference it would make.
Never even thought about doing it.

See what people say????

+1, never heard of having to hydrate it before tossing it into a boiling cauldron of wort...kind of redundant.

I use powered Irish Moss, and if I throw a teaspoon in the boil, it doesn't dissolve, but stays clumpy all the way to the carboy.

I now 'rehydrate' the powered form with a whisk and a little water and throw the slurry in the boiling wort at T-10. Hope that helps.

I take some of the wort at the start of the boil, let it cool, and sprinkle the IM on top. At 10 minutes, I stir it in with the wort in the cup and then add to the kettle.

I would really like to hear what the most effective way to use IM is. I don't know if it is doing anything or not, but I bought 4 ozs of it many years ago, and it's going to last many more years; might as well use it.

I used the powder form for the first few brews I made. I've since picked up the tablets (WhirlFloc) since they are pretty cheap, and much easier to just toss one in for the last 15 minutes of the boil.
