13.25 lb Rahr 2-row Pale 2L
2.14 lb Crystal 60L
1.87 lb American Chocolate 125L
1.00 lb Flaked Barley 2L
0.50 lb Black Barley (Stout) 500L
0.19 lb Roasted Barley 550L
0.19 lb British Black Patent 500L

2.00 oz East Kent Golding 60min (5%, 26.3 IBU)
1.65 oz East Kent Golding 40min (5%, 19.0 IBU)
0.65 oz East Kent Golding 20min (5%, 5.2 IBU)

Looking for feedback on this Stout recipe. Just began looking into formulating recipes and thought "Why not go with something ridiculous?" The concept of this beer is to get a depth of dark chocolate flavor, with some possible subtle caramel notes. Opinions of the experienced welcome.

How did this beer turn out?

Imperial Stout

13.75 lb 2-Row
1.5 lb Crystal 60L
1.5 lb Chocolate 350L
1 lb Flaked barley
.75 lb Black Barley 550L
.75 lb Roast Barley 300L

East kent Goldings
2oz 60min
2oz 40min
1oz 20min
1/4 tsp Irish Moss 15min

Other: 2 vanilla beans 10min
2 tablespoons ground espresso 10min
3 tablespoons of cacao nibs 10min

Tweaked the recipe slightly. Brewed this back on 01DEC'12. Just bottled it two weeks ago. The wort at bottling time was tasty as hell. Nice coffee aroma on the nose, the mouth gives you the bitter of the roast malts and dark chocolate. The end leaves you with some subtle taste of the vanilla bean and a dry finish that will has you goin' back for another drink.

Hoping that the addition of carbonation will only enhance these qualities. Cracking the test bomber next weekend.

Just wanted to give an update on this beer. It got thrown into a bottle on 30DEC12. Last taste was 16FEB13. It's coming along well.

It pours with a low-medium carbonation. Forming a medium thin head, brown in color.

Smells of the dark roasted malts, with hints of alcohol/espresso/chocolate and some fruitiness.

The roasted flavors are diminishing in favor of fruit from the dark malts, the dark chocolate taste has been standing up well. It's got a slight alcohol bite, warming.

Finishes dry and gets you ready for the next drink.

And it was entered into the local homebrew competition and earned a bronze in the Russian Imperial category.
