Default Hop replacement

Do you all think there will be a significant change in an ale recipe if I replace Vanguard/Glacier with Northern Brewer/Cascade. I just happen to have those hosp here when I got a bug to brew this morning.

Yes, Glacier and cascade are very different hops.

In what way, so I can decide on the impact of making the change. =) Thanks.

Reading up on the two, both are mild citrusy aroma hops, with a higher alpha in the cascade. Don't see a big difference besides that.

I found this site which gives a visual hop claddification. Nice. Show the difference in the two hops quite well.

what style are you brewing?

cascade is very citrusy, grapefruit kind of flavor, glacier isn't.

but depending on the style, it might not be a big deal to introduce those flavors.

It's a persimmon beer, think rye ale but smoother and with a more bitter or oak taste. I make it from all the stuff I grow in the back yard.

I have some Mt Hood, I think I will add them to get the earthy bit and risk the high spice. Let me know if you think I'm crazy. =)

If you use cascade for aroma and flavor then you will have a citrusy APA similar to Seirra Nevada.

Glacier will be closer to an English PA. In my experience Glacier is more like the typical English hop than any of the big "C" hops.
