reverseapachemaster found a spec sheet for what Belgosuc makes that Dark Candi imports. I believe the product was D2, and IIRC it contained about 45% maltose. I don't know how much maltose beets naturally contain, but I don't think it's that much. So there's some sort of processing going on with it, or added ingredients.
As far as how it's different, I'd need a lot more info to start to answer that. The best way would be to buy some and taste it. Maybe it's better than what people have been using.
