Default Is Ginger Ale really an Ale?

If so, is there a recipe for it that will taste more like a Ginger Ale and less like a traditional ale?

Two factors: the amount of ginger and sweetness. My Lady Golden Ginger Blonde Ale is basically a Mild with about 8 oz. of crushed ginger added at 60 minutes, plus 8 oz. of lactose for sweetness. Works fairly well.
