Anybody have a recipe for this (extract)?

all day IPA recipe thoughts
UPDATED: Using Amarillo hops

I'm thinking its just base malt with some light caramels for a touch of color.

single infusion mash with 75% efficiency. SG=1.048 FG=1.012 SRM=6 IBU=42.1 using Rager. ABV clocks in between 4.4% and 4.8% depending on the yeast strain used.

3.36kg 2-row base malt
0.63kg Caramel 20L

0.75oz Cascade 8.9%AA 50 minutes
0.50oz Amarillo 8.6%AA 25 minutes
1 oz Amarillo 8.6%AA 10 minutes
1 oz Centennial 9.9%AA Dryhop for 1 week

Use a neutral yeast like WLP001, or whatever you use for your house strain. Wyeast 1056? Safale US-05?

You can sub in 3kg Briess CBW Golden Light LME and remove all grains to get about 4.5%ABV and SRM=5 with IBU=43. Let's get some discussion on this idea and see what people think about it. If you want to adjust the color darker, use a little bit of Chocolate malt since it acts like a Caramel malt in small quantities and won't change the flavor like a roasted barley or black patent malt will. You also don't need to mash chocolate malt, just steep for 30 minutes between 140-170F (closer to 140 for less bitterness from the husk).

I used Cascade for bitterness and the citrus peel flavor. i used the centennial dry hopping flavors and aroma because i use it frequently and thought i tasted it, but not overpowering.

Yeah, 1056 is pretty basic and might work .

Those hops are new to me (the second one). Would citra fit at all?

Citra has a completely different profile. I did a little bit of a research after the post and I really think it is going to be the Amarillo hop. The new Galaxy hop from Australia would be nice as well, but different. I don't think you could really sub out the flavor and aroma hops and get the same beer though.

I am not sure about Amarillo. I get a lot of apricot / sweet tropical flavors when I use them and it is a very distinct flavor that I didn't pick up in all day. I think all day is mostly cascades if not exclusively. It reminded me a lot of the beer from Ale Asylum called hopalicious which they openly state as being 100% cascades.

I am pretty certain they used Centennial in the Dry Hops at least, but not too large of an addition. It has a pretty distinct flavor to it. What do you think about Ahtanum? I have used Cascade in a single hop before and it didn't have the character I noticed in the ADIPA. That's why I was going with a different hop for the flavor and aroma. probably going to buy the stuff sunday and brew monday (going extract for time purposes).

Yeah I think using a touch of centennial would be good if you want to add a second variety. Now that you say that, I can see how centennial would fit into all day. I haven't used ahtanum before so I don't know what it does for the flavor. Whatever you settle on it should be tasty even if you stick with amarillo. Good luck on the brew!
