Flaked Barley? Thank You!
|
|
So I am brewing a Dos Equis clone and ordered 6# of flaked maize. More Beer sent me 6# of flaked barley instead. Their loss, my gain. They've agreed to send me my 6# of maize and I keep the barley. What styles do you guys and gals usually add the flaked barley to? Never used it before and figured now is as good a time as any.

It will go great in a dry srout recipe. What a lucky screw-up.

I use flaked barley in my darwinian stout. Makes it very full bodied...

Can I add it to any style to get a fuller body? What percent of the grist should FB make up in a 5 gal recipe? Is it a good add to English beers?

we buy flaked and pearled barley at wholefood store all time. probably alot cheaper than a HBSS. i always wondered if beer could be made from them.
...and, i do believe flaked maize can also be bought there.

I wouldn't add it to a draught beer, but it works really well with a bottled English pale ale.

I think the pearled barley cannot be used to make beer, but the flaked barley should be okay. Not too sure.
