Well I had my first stuck mash after brewing 12 batches...what a PITFA!!!!

Any who.... I tried brewing Jamil Zainasheff's Stout recipe. The recipe called for 20% flaked barley...which I was a little leary about. To add injury to insult I flipped a coin and added another huskless grain (wheat) only 1 pound.

This is the recipe:
14# optic
4# flaked barley
1# White Wheat
2# Black Roasted Barley (ground real fine per directions)
4oz EKG (pellet) 60min
2oz EKG (whole) 0min
3rd Gen dry eng ale yeast

*** and 2 pounds of rice hulls....result...one stuck mash. So what gives.

*** I use a Sabco False Bottom in my mashtun...provided a beta-gluc rest (20 min) and my grist/H20 was 1.25Qt/#

*** Still had to Stir the mash every 15min to keep it free.

I went Ag this past summer and had my sparge clogged up on my second or third batch. I ended up switching over to a quasi BIAB to get through the PITA factor.
