Recipes 

Hey guys, I finally decided to take a crack at making up my own recipe instead of using a kit. I'm shooting for an easy drinking American Pale Ale with some nice citrus in the finishing hops for summer. Here is what I have so far.

5 lbs. extra light DME (LD Carlson)
.5 lbs Crystal 20
.5 lbs Crystal 40
.25 lbs Munich malt
1 oz 7.6% Cluster (60 min)
1 oz 5.0% Cascade (flameout)
Irish Moss
Wyeast 1056

I was originally planning on Citra and Simcoe but LHBS had neither, so I substituted. I am pretty set on using these two hops now since I already bought them but advice on amounts and timings would be much appreciated. As for the specialty grains, I just kind of looked at a few recipes and picked some stuff I knew I had or could get.

What do you guys think? Too much crystal?

Recipes 

Not too much crystal at all. It will add color and malty flavor. I guess you are goig to steep it in a grain bag and hold it around 150-155 for thirty minutes or so. I would add half of the cascade at 15 minutes, but I use an immersion chiller and cool down pretty quick (10 minutes). If you are cooling down with an ice bath it would be different. Looks like beer to me! Keep on brewin' !
