Diff between Cara-pils and Caramel pils
Anyone know the difference between Caramel Pils (SRM 8)
Cara-pils (SRM 2)
I'm guessing different maltsters and that the Caramel Pils is kilned a bit warmer or longer to get the darker SRM?
Edit: I accidentally ordered Caramel pils instead of Carpils for my last blonde ale recipe - it came out good but I'm just wondering what the difference in flavor would be between the two malts.
Carapils aka dextrine malt doesn't contribute any noticeable caramel flavour. It addes dextrines which add head retention and body.
Caramel pils is more of a typical caramel malt. Think of it as a little bit lighter than Crystal 10. It's going to have a very soft and faint caramel flavor. I wouldn't expect a big impact from the switch up, unless it's 10% or more of the grain bill.
