Default Caliente Hops

I just cracked my first bottle of a BMC made using Caliente and bittered with Northern Brewer. IBUs were intentionally low (for me) at about 30. The idea was to highlight the flavor of Caliente......... and it's nothing to get excited about. I bought a half a pound from Yakima Valley.... because it was cheap. It is very distinctively "stone fruit", and not much else. It definitely has a place as far as it's stone fruit flavor, but it's not a hop to stand by itself. I feel it would play well with a spicy hop, or contribute to a complex fruit blend. It would be overwhelmed by most popular American hops. Caliente is definitely ill named... it's not "hot", not a "star" but definitely has a place in the supporting cast.
