Default British Ale 1098 question

One area i really lack in my brewing is info about yeast. i'm planning on brewing an Irish red, and then do a Stout on the yeast cake, or wash the yeast (depending on when i brew the stout). would Wyeast British Ale 1098 be a good pick? I have a pack on hand, thats why i'm considering it.

THanks in advance!

As in most things, it depends.

In this case, it depends on how true to the Irish Red style you wish to brew. Irish Red should balance on the malty-sweet side with definite caramel overtones.

Wyeast 1098 finishes quite dry and crisp, which might not be successful in an Irish Red.

The most I can advise is try it and see. I think it'll be excellent in your stout!

I like my reds malty, so I think it would be a great yeast for it.
