BBW Blonde Ale Recipe Feedback
Boil Size: 6.5
Batch Size: 5.5 Boil Time: 60min OG: 1.067 FG: 1.017 SRM: 8 IBU: 22 ABV: 6.5 Fermentables: 6lb American Two-Row Pale 5lb Belgian Pils (or Maris Otter, can't decide) 1lb Rolled Oats .5lb Honey Malt .5lb Crystal 10 .125lb Belgian Special B 1lb Honey @ Flameout Mash two-row, MO/Pils and rolled oats at 153 for 60 minutes. Add Honey Malt, Crystal 10 and Special B just prior to vorlauf. Hops: .5oz Willamette @60min 1oz Willamette @30min .5oz Willamette @5min Yeast: American Ale Yeast Fermentation Schedule: Ferment @ RT for 21 days (rack to secondary on day 10 if you please) After 3 weeks or target FG, bottle or keg. What do you guys think? I know it's a bit "heavy" for a blonde ale, but that's why it's called the BBW. Edit: I should mention that I'm on the fence about the special B. I love the flavors that it gives, and I think that it could add a lot of complexity even with such a small amount. I'm just wondering if it might deter from the flavors of the honey + honey malt. |
Love the name!
I think it looks interesting. I'd go with the Pils rather than the MO, but would also consider all two-row. I'd drop the oats and if you think you need more proteins, I'd replace it with a lb of wheat malt. I think the honey along with the yeast choice will nicely dry out the beer.
