Default another day, another IPA recipe

I'm curious if anyone had any thoughts about this one--particularly my hop selection and schedule. I'm going for something with a similar body & sweetness to Three Floyd's Alpha King (which they call a Pale, but with 66 IBU I'd call an IPA). I'm doing a partial mash / late-add extract method.

So...

Mash at 150 degrees:

3 lbs Vienna
8 oz Crystal 40
8 oz Carapils

Then use that wort for a 3 gallon boil with 1 pound light DME.

Add 1.5 oz Northern Brewer (9%) at 60

Then at 15 minutes add 4 lbs Light DME and...

1/2 oz Amarillo (9%)
1/2 oz Simcoe (12%)

At 10 minutes add

1/2 oz Amarillo (9%)
1/2 oz Simcoe (12%)

And at 2 minutes add

1/2 oz Amarillo (9%)
1/2 oz Simcoe (12%)

The HBD recipator puts that at about 65 IBUs, with a SG of 1.063. I figure I'll just use a packet of Safale-05.

I've used Northern Brewer as a bittering hop before & liked it--never used Simcoe or Amarillo--but I love their leaf aromas. Do they play well together? Is using such high alpha hops for flavoring asking for harshness?

No harshness there ! Your choice of Amarillo and Simcoe was about the best Hop pairing ever made! This is a fave among your fellow HBT brewers.

Cheers

Extract version:
2.75 lbs light DME

The recipe list called for Warrior and Centennial hops for 90 min, but the recipe directions call for Magnum and Columbus hops for 75 min.

Don't know which is right.

Wow, Alpha King really runs the gamut with the different crystal-type malts--I guess that's what makes it...complex? Anyway, I might give that a try this summer. Thanks.
