Default Ahtanum Hops

In preparing for the hop shortage, I picked up some of Ahtanum hops. I've never used them, and I don't know that I've had a beer with significan Ahtanum character. I understand that they are another variation on the Northwest U.S. hop, but they have a little more grapefruit to them (which I like).

Has anyone had any experience with this stuff? Can you give me a little more insight before I go tossing them into wort? Thanks.

Stone uses it in their IPA. Supposed to be a pretty good hop. You'll be fine using it in pretty much any American ale you want to be really hoppy.

I didn't realize that about Stone. I like Stone IPA.

Very cool... maybe a SN type of beer with Ahtanum in place of cascade?

I've used them as a substitute for cascades before. They're a really nice hop!

They sound really interesting. Hey, maybe they're the new Amarillo!

I just used some this past weekend in an IPA, as mash hops. I'll also be using them for dry hopping on the same batch.

How do you pronounce Ahtanum anyway?
