Default 22 Pounds of Grain for a Five Gallon Batch (Yikes !!!)

I'm down to my last 15 bottles of the 888 RIS. I should have brewed this up 3-4 months ago, but a 1.090 RIS brewing in July/August just wasn’t an appealing idea. Plus, I was busy brewing back to back session beers for events.

I want this RIS to be silky smooth and texture rich. My mash tun was chalk full and this was a thick mash.

We’ll go:
One month primary at 67 degrees.
One month secondary at 67 degrees.
Three months in a keg in the 45 degree garage.
Carb it, bottle it and store for next year.

I think I shall sneak a “peek” sometime in April.

Moscow Nights, Russian Imperial Stout.

Batch Size: 5.74 gal
Boil Size: 7.67 gal
Estimated OG: 1.090 SG
Estimated Color: 49.6 SRM
Estimated IBU: 83.3 IBU
Brewhouse Efficiency: 65.0 %
Boil Time: 60 Minutes

Ingredients:

14.00 lb Pale Malt, Maris Otter (3.0 SRM)
2.00 lb Munich Malt (9.0 SRM)
1.00 lb Caramunich Malt (56.0 SRM)
1.00 lb Chocolate Malt (250.0 SRM)
1.00 lb Roasted Barley (300.0 SRM)
1.00 lb Vienna Malt (3.5 SRM)
0.50 lb Caramel/Crystal Malt - 20L (20.0 SRM)
0.50 lb Caramel/Crystal Malt - 80L (80.0 SRM)
0.50 lb Caramel/Crystal Malt -120L (120.0 SRM)
0.25 lb Black (Patent) Malt (500.0 SRM)
0.25 lb Special B Malt (180.0 SRM)
2.00 oz Nugget [11.50%] (60 min)
1.00 oz Nugget [11.50%] (15 min)
1.00 oz Goldings, East Kent [5.50%] (10 min)
1.00 oz Williamette [5.20%] (10 min)

Mashed at 154 for 90 minutes.

Pitched a huge slurry of Safale-04 from a prior batch.

i like the use of all the crystal malts. should be an interesting spectrum of flavors. perfect for such a complex beer! let us know how that sneak peek goes.

Looks pretty good. I been thinkin' I need to re-brew the RIS too. Need something for next winter.

I need to do my RIS again 19lb and I hit 1.093 it sure was yummy
