Default What's the proper maintenence for a keggle?

Is there any? Do you need to sanitize the ball valve assembly before boiling? I have a 3/8 hose barb, Should I change it to a 1/2?

I brush out my ball valve before I put it away to be sure there is no hop / break crud to dry inside or worse to mold.

You will develop deposits on the metal over time from the boil. How fast it happens depends on your water. You can clean the beer stone off with a dilute acid soak.

1/2" barb will allow a lot faster flow.

First you need to decide if changing it out will gain you anything. If you're just draining your keggle, go for it. If you're draining through a chiller, the chiller might cause enough of a restriction that the larger barb will gain you nothing.

Do you even need a hose barb? Can I just leave the ball valve open?

You need to run some length of hose on the output in order to pull a siphon on the inside. If you don't, it will stop flowing right at the level of the bulkhead.

What do you guys use? Does anybody have a pic of what it looks like in there keggle?

I only have the ball valve and hose barb for the outside. What do I need for the inside and can I get it at HD? I'm using it tomorrow.

If you can solder, you can make yourself a drain tube out of 1/2" copper.
