Default what is the small tube on the side?

i know this is a dumb question, but some of the kettles i see in the gallery have a small tube running up outside and i was wondering what that is. i hope this is not an annoying question.

I believe what you are referring to is a sight glass. It shows you the liquid level inside of a kettle.

I believe you are referring to a sight glass? It tells you how much liquid you have in your kettle.

Wildwest...I need you to inform SWMBO that I do in fact have a great mind. She doesn't seem to believe me for some strange reason.
