Default Weldless fittings for alum brewpot.

I ordered a new brewpot today 15Gal alum stock pot from amazon and Im looking to put a weldless fitting on it as many many people have told me how stupid it would be to pour a 10 gal batch and pouring my 5 gal batches is quite the trick.

Im looking to get one of the fittings from http://www.northernbrewer.com/weldless.html and Im wondering why go SS over the bronze? If SS is a clear winner I will just go grab parts at my local Lowes/Home Depot rather than pay those prices. I wasent able to find any how-tos with the search for attaching fittings to pots/kettles, if anyone knows a link that would be amazing .

As a side note, my first batch comes out of the primary in a week

There is not much how to for this project. It's insanely simple. Drill a hole with a step bit or hole saw, insert fitting and put washer on and tigthen nut. My thread might help. As far as brass vs. stainless, there is some information that brass has some lead in it, which can be removed using a simple method in How to Brew. Personally, I have the stainless valve.

This place has much better prices on weldless kits, and they ship very quickly. I've ordered a few of them, and am very satisfied. There is also basic installation info on the site.

Awesome! thanks for the help. I assumed it was a pretty simple, drill hole, insert hardware. But I wanted to make sure .

just be careful...aluminum is a little softer than SS...if the kettle walls are too thin you may have issues with the fitting bending the wall when you open/close the valve.

hopefully a kettle that size has appropriately thick walls, and rivet'd handles.

wondering how the pot worked out for you. any problems with the walls being to thin and bending in conversion or use?

Sounds like you have a similar issue. Unless your boil kettle is the extremely thin metal that you can bend or dent with hand pressure it will hold the valve just fine.

I also have a commercial grade aluminum pot that I drilled for a weldless fitting. You will have no problems with bending or denting, amazon says you are at 4mm which is plenty thick. I think the problems mentioned above refer to some of the thin aluminum kettles that come with turkey fryer setups.
