Default ThermoWorks ThermaLite 1 thermometer

Anyone have one of these? Looks brand new, as a search returns nothing...possibly a cheaper alternative to a Thermapen?

The certification and guaranteed accuracy are a positive, but having to purchase a separate silicone boot to make it splashproof is a negative.

Any info or opinions?

Thanks!
Pat

Looks fine. Not quite in the same category as a Thermapen, but I would assume it's sufficient for brewing. The biggest disadvantage I can see is the slower response time. So long as you are fine with holding the probe there for ~3x as long to get a good reading, it ought to be fine.

I've got this one:

and it works plenty fast and is cheaper. Obviously, you can't drop it into wort and expect it to keep working, but I've gotten the body of it wet and it stills works.

Thanks for the responses...I just said "screw it", and ordered a Thermapen. I'm hoping it's the last thermometer I buy, lol

For what it's worth I have used the same one on brewday for over three years now. I did end up getting another one about 6-8 months ago when they were on sale, just so I could keep one in the kitchen for regular cooking and one by my brew stand for brewing.

I have the RT600C as well. Couldn't see the point in spending $75 more on 3 seconds. (RT600C vs Thermapen response time, btw)
