Default thermometer stem length

On of the issues I had this past weekend witt the new keggle mash tun was the thermometer. Long story short, grain got stuck in the 1/2" nipple from the inside, causing low readings on the gauge.

So the question is this - would simply getting a longer stem thermometer, say 6" probe, likely solve the issue?

What do others do?

I had the same problem with a 2" probe. Temps would go down if the mash wasn't stirred constantly.

After installing the 6" probe the temps are more constant throughout the length of the mash.

Might be worth a try.
