Default is it safe to buy a non NSF certified stainless steel pot?

I found a 60qt one on ebay for $100 shipped but it says it is not NSF certified. Does anyone know if it is still safe to use?

I'm no metallurgist but in my opinion, it's 100% safe.

Oh my God. You will be dead within 10 milliseconds if beer made with that pot ever touches your lips.

NSF stands for National Sanitary Foundation. I believe it just means that it is certified as something that can be sanitized. Look at your kitchen pots. I've never seen NSF certified on the stuff we have. If it's something that's made to cook food related stuff in, you're good to go. If it's made from pure lead or rat poison, I'd look for something a little higher quality.

I think NSF is more for restaurants than consumers.

Having dealt with these guys and UL and others....all it means is the company that made that product didn't go through NSF to get their product certified. That doesn't necessarily mean its not food grade though. You would need to confirm its ok to use with food with the Mfg of the product.
