I just bought a large chest freezer today for very cheap. I am planning on turning it into a kegorator/lagering box. It has some rust on the outside and the inside.
I have it unplugged and opened to dry out for a day or two.
How do I treat the rust areas...sand them...paint over them????
strip the rusted areas down to bare shiny metal, then repaint. If its not a big area inside you may want to think about marine paint. It works better in wet or moist environments but a little spendy.

Most problems can be solved with the proper application of force.
After you get the rust taken care of, you want to get some damp rid. Once the metal rusts it will come back so the damp rid will aid you in keeping the moisture down.

damp rid is a brand name for calcium chloride. it absorbs moisture in the air. I have heard you can get it cheap as calcium chloride at pool supply stores. otherwise you pay for the name.
