Default Remote thermometer score!!

Home Depot has the Charmglow remote control digital thermometer on special for $14.97. The reciever works up to 100 feet away from your grill, or sparge water or mash tun.... and it beeps when it reaches your temp!

Just thinking . . . what is the temperature range on the alarm? Does it go as low a fermentation temps? Might be nice to put one on the side of the carboy in the basement and know if a real active yeast has gotten the temperature too high. Is there an automatic shut-off to save battery life?
