Default Pump speed control- Can you or not with...

Seems to be some conflicting posts about.
Can you or can't you safely (for you and the pump) control the speed of a March mag drive pump with:
A/
Light dimmer
B/
Ceiling fan control

?

I would wait for another to validate this would work, but I was thinking this may do the job, and have no wiringin set up issues:

*Edit* this may also be a good method of motor speed control for a grain mill...

DO NOT attempt to control the motor speed on a mag drive pump. They are not meant to work that way.

However, you can control the outlet flow with a ball valve. Just adjust the valve until you achieve the flow you want. The magnetic coupling will slip as required without damaging the pump at all - they're designed to do that.

Hey Yuri, do you think the control unit I posted above is an effective way of controlling motor speed for a grain mill?

Doubtful as well...you're going to need a rather powerful motor to turn your grain mill. Using a speed controller to slow the RPMs will also cut the power output. What you really want to do is gear it down with pulleys and a belt, sprockets and a chain, or gears.

For a mag drive no bypass is needed. The magnets just slip if there is too much back pressure.
