The holiday season is upon us and I thought I would take this opportunity to start getting/giving myself the necessary equipment for all-grain. I specifically have a question about a propane burner to use for full boils. Reading through the homebrew talk thread history I was kind of set on the Bayou SP-10 as it seems to have a little more ummph than the SQ-14 and the price is approximately the same. I plan mostly on 5 gallon boils but I am buying everything big enough to brew 10 gallon batches because I know if I don't, I will regret it. Every once in awhile I see people have a little problem either getting a larger boil with the smaller BTUs of the sq-14 or it might take a long time and I would like to spend less time getting to a boil.
The problem is that it looks like recently the kits for the SP-10 have started to come with a 10 psi regulator instead of a 20 psi regulator, which cuts your BTUs significantly, from 185,000 to 55,000.
This looks like it is now the same output as the SQ-14. As I see it, I have a few options.
Do I go for the homebrewing.org burner?
Do I go for the SP-10 with the stock 10 psi regulator, and if need be upgrade the regulator to a larger one?
Do I try to find a place that sells only the SP-10 without a regulator and get a separate 20 psi regulator?
Am I worrying over nothing?
Go for some other option?
