I just went to a keggle for my brew pot and need a quicker way to chill than the immersion chiller I've been using. I got a good bit of info here already but still have 2 questions.
1) What are people doing about the cold break? Let settle in a first fermenter and rack to a second? Leave in the fermenter?
2) What tubing are people using to go from the brew pot to the in side of the plate chiller. Standard PVC tubing is rated up to 175. The wort will be above that.

Thanks

You've already got the copper so go ahead and make a counterflow chiller out of it. You can drain through the chiller right into your fermentor or you can recirc with a pump for a nice whirlpool.

There's nothing wrong with letting the cold break make its way to the fermentor. Some people use silicone tubing for everything. It's expensive at 2+ bucks a foot. I just use a short length that goes from my keggle to my cf chiller. After the chiller, I use vinyl tubing which, is about 5 bucks for 20 feet at Lowes et al.

I've been using a plate chiller for about 20 brews now, love it but they take just a bit more maintenance the an IC. I backflush mine with boiling water and oxyclean then run starsan through it after using. No issues with break material/trub, leave it behind in the fermentor when you bottle or keg, I just use a primary for 3-4 weeks or longer and always get clean and clear beer. Use silicon tubing for the hoses, it is good up to ~500F so no issue for boiling temps. Link to Rebelbrewer silicon tubing, can find at most homebrew shops: http://www.rebelbrewer.com/shoppingcart/products/High-Temp-Silicone-Tubing-1{47}2"-ID.html
