Pickup location from bottom on false bottom
 

I just purchased the ABT domed false bottom from Midwest. The direction show to put the pickup right next to the mesh, leaving a lot of dead space under the false bottom, and a lot of wort loss. Is this the proper way to place the pickup tube, or should I run it close to the bottom?

I am planning on direct heat under the false bottom and recirculating the wort.

I threw out the 3/8 pickup tube it came with and made my own from 1/2". Cut the bottom of the pickup tube at a slight angle( about 30*) and let it go all the way to the bottom. I leave less than 1 cup of liquid in the bottom set up like this.
