Is there really any reason to use PBW over Bar Keeper's Friend, because the price difference is drastic. I recently did some welding on my kettles and the heat from the torch kind of messed with the stainless and resulted in some oxidation on the inside after I washed it. I picked up some bar keepers friend for like $1.69, and scrubbed away. The rust came right off and left the kettle shiny and clean. So if I'm gonna sanitize before I brew anyway what the point in spending the extra cash on PBW
BKF is a metal specific cleaner, that uses oxalic acid+abrasives for cleaning. PBW is a mild basic general cleaner that can be used on almost any brewing equipment. It is not abrasive, but cleans organic grunge easily. Plain Oxy clean, or a combo of Oxy clean and TSP (or fake TSP) can also be used as a general cleaner.
