Hey all,

On Bobby's recommendation, I picked up a ball valve and bulkhead, and a 90 degree elbow instead of a pickup tube for my flat bottomed kettle. I failed to ask him the best way to orient it when installing it: should the opening face the bottom of the kettle directly with a minor gap, or should it sit at a downward angle, with one edge resting against the bottom of the kettle?
Just want to make sure I'm drilling the hole in the right place!

I would argue that parallel with the bottom is the way to go as it will leave the least amount of liquid behind. Of course, this may require your use of a hop-straining device or a whirlpooling procedure of sorts.

I have my kettle set up just like that the gap is 1/8" or less,i do a bit of a whirlpool and put hop pellets in a bag(no bag on whole hops,it has alwats worked well,a few pieces make there way out when the valve is first opened
