Default Old School Dehumidifier

Tuesday was trash day and someone in my neighborhood was throwing away an old school dehumidifier. A cursory glance indicates 60's era. The back has about 40' of 1/2" or 3/8" of soft copper coiled up.

Obviously a coil for refrigerant, which may or may not be in there. If I take it apart and clean thoroughly, oxy clean, boil in vinegar and salt solution, any reason why I couldn't use the copper, say as a heat exchange coil in a HERMS?

I don't know. I'd definitely be more comfortable if you said you wanted to use it for an immersion chiller.

Personally, I'd only use new copper for a CFC or a HERMS coil. I don't know if I'd be able to convince myself that it's clean if I can't see it. But that's just me.

I agree, Immesion chiller, I'd use it...running your beer INSIDE the tubing that had coolant in it? Not me....

Oh I know, you gave me the idea for another source for cheap copper.

If you don't need an IC, build it anyway, sell it, and use the money to buy new copper for a HERMS coil.
