Default old keg conversion

I picked up an old stainless steel keg at a garage sale, the kind with the large "bung" hole in the center - the top has been removed by someone. Anyone know if these are convertable for kettles or ..some other use? Can the hole in the side be welded with a patch or something easier? The brand on it is Firestone. Thanks.

i would think a SS patch would be fine and then proceed as usual. the bunghole (haha sorry) is too high for a thermometer or anything else if your doing 5 gal batches.
