Default oak barrel sanitation

I'm emptying my oak barrel after 8 months of aging and have no brew to refill with. My plan is to rinse, sanitize and refill with water and fresh hops. my question is will the hops help keep bacteria from growing in the barrel, or will this be another problem later on?

Is it a small barrel? If so, citric acid and something else can be mixed up with water as a maintenance solution. If it is more than 5-10 gallons its a LOT of citric acid. I'd have to look it up.

i use water, 4-5 campden tablets, and about 1 oz lemon juice to keep mine clean between brews

its a 10 gall. barrel. will 5 star sanitizer work on cleaning?

No, no, no. Any of the sanitizers we normally use will soak into the wood and cause definite off flavors when you refill.
