Default No stupid questions right ?

Everything I've read says not to use scratched plastic in brewing, and I assume this refers to fermenting in a bucket. I assume that using an old scratched bucket to hold sanitizing solution while brewing would be o.k. ???

The reason you don't want to use scratched plastic is because it can harbor bacteria that the sanitizer can't reach. If you have sanitizer in the bucket and are cleaning your equipment in it, you'd probably only have a problem if the equipment came in contact with the scratch. The worse the scratch, the more risk of contimination.

Wha-da-ya-mean no stupid questions?
Stupid questions are how a person gets around to asking the smart ones.

Everybody's gotta start somewhere.
For some there are lots of start points for all sorts of different topics.

Yah, you can keep a sanitizer in a crappy poly bucket. Anything that gets loose in it will get dead.

Of course you might find an exception to that but, hey,, that's life in the fast lane.

There is a balance between what "they" say about scratches and others that say "don't worry it will still make beer". I'm still fermenting in buckets that have a few (or more than a few) scratches. I plan to replace them sometime, but I'm not really worried about it since all my batches have turned out great. I'd say clean well and sanitize.. you'll probably be just fine. On the other hand, if you have deep scratches that look dirty I would replace them.
