Its used to make a starter and keep the yeast all nice and happy
This is right up my alley. I can probably use our board milling machine here at work and cut out a couple boards to use. Hmm...kind of busy now, but maybe when things slow down a bit.

Yea, like JB said, Its for making a yeast starter. To be more specific, it is supposed to aid in faster and more volume of starters by constently airating the wort as well as keeping the yeast in suspension at all times. I have not tried it with a real starter yet but will do so this week.

I'm in, that seems like the trick, I have looked at them in mail order catalogs and the price is out of reach. ( well ok I'd rather spend that much on somethng else)
But I can make one of these too. I have a lot of the parts as well. and what I don't have I'm sure I can scrounge. I work in an electronics/wiring lab.thank you .

For a second I thought I had stumbled back into that "favorite bands of all time" thread.

Well the stirplate was a sucess.... I had a good amount of yeast after it fermented out in like 1 day. I put it in the fridge and decanted off the beer prior to pitching. I had airlock activity within 2.5 hrs after pitching. There is almost constant bubbling at this point, which is now at 18 hrs. I learned from the last time and have a blowoff tube on there this time.
I will try to put a parts list etc together for this as there does seem to be some people interested.

Ha! my boss likes to say.... I'm gunna need you to, "do whatever it takes" to get this done. My brothers boss is partial to... we need you to "step up to the plate". Maybe if they actually did any real work they wouldn't have time to think up these catchy sayings.

I use oxygen to aerate my starters and they come out very nice. Do these stir plates really make that much of a difference?
