Magic Chef beverage cooler

I have a magic chef wine cooler which is great for fermenting in because the temperature range is from 39-65. I also have the companion "beverage cooler" to chill my homebrew. Problem is, however, the temperature range also starts at 39 degrees. We all know that when I fill this frig. the temp is going to vary, sometimes to 42 degrees. Does anyone know is I can somehow manually over ride the temp unit and get it to say 37-38 degress without destroying the unit?
