Just bought a Crankandstein!
|
|
So I finally bit the bullet and bought a Crankandstein grain mill I went with the 2A and the base and hopper since I wanted to be able to adjust the setting easily if needed.
I had been getting between 70-75% efficiency using my corona style hand crank mill that I modified with a few homer buckets, however, I am getting married in July and plan to brew up beer for not only my wedding favors but also plan to give cases of beer as my groomsman gifts so I figured it was time to upgrade.
I looked at a lot of different options for mills (MM, Barleycrusher etc) but decided to go with C&S for the quality and price (I was able to get the complete set up for only $150 shipped) I might even try to sell my old corona style mill to offset a little cost.
Anyone else use this mill?

I just got the 2D in December. It's my first mill so I don't really have anything to compare it to, but I love it so far. I brewed with it for the first time last weekend and got slightly over 80% efficiency. Here's a link to mine, http://www.homebrewtalk.com/f51/just-finished-my-grain-mill-297641/

I've got a 3D. Very happy with it.

I bought the cheapest one, 2s? Hooked it up the drill and love it. Haven't needed to change the spacing on it all all. 75% efficiency, I'm good with that.

2d here. Have been using it for almost 4 years now and it has never missed a beat. After reading some of the stuff in the barley crusher thread I am glad I went with it. The only thing I wish the sides were closed so grain dust wouldn't come out of there. I usually have to put some tinfoil on it to keep grain dust at bay.

Same here. I have had it for quite a while. I think when i bought it the price was around $60. I built my own hopper for it out of ductwork and a scrap piece of plywood and have been using it like that ever since. And I get about 75% eff as well. As long as the efficiency is consistent, that is all that matters.

Just wanted to post an update about how happy I am with my purchase. I ordered my mill on Thursday afternoon, the owner emailed me the same day to thank me and let me know he would process my order asap, and I had my mill by Saturday
The mill itself is of the highest quality and I can tell that with proper care it will outlast me! I can't wait to try it out with my next brew and I would highly recommend a crankandstein to anyone in the market for a new mill!

I appreciate the owner as well. My mother made an order for the mill for an Xmas gift for me. She didn't receive it in a week, so she contacted him. He notified her that the order slipped through the cracks, and overnighted the mill to make it in time for Xmas.

I went all out and bought the 3d with stainless rollers a couple years ago. I absolutely love it!
