Default How to read this?

Hi!

I'm brewing up my first batch in Europe as I type - it took me a while to get all the equipment together, but i've got it and it's finally brewday! I picked up a hydrometer at the (relatively) lhbs, pulled it out today and found this.

Your hydrometer looks like it is using Plato Degrees as opposed to Gravity readings. This should help...

It it is, as has been pointed out, a Brix or Plato hydrometer. It should say Bx or °P on it somewhere and there should be an indication as to the temperature at which it's supposed to be used. To convert roughly to SG multiply the reading by 4 and put 1.0 in front of that e.g 10 Bx --> 40 -->1.040. Below 2.5 put 1.00 in front e.g. 2 --> 8 ---> 1.008.

To delete a post edit it and click the Delete button at the lower right hand edge of the edit window.
