Default Hopback

Sorry for the cross post but I should have posted here first I guess since I didn't get any responces in Gen Tec thread.

I was reading the article on a build your own hopback in the Brew Your Own magazine, vol. 13 no. 7, when the idea came to me of using my Rubbermaid MLT as a hopback. It seems like I could just clean it out while the wort is boiling and conect a high tempurature tube from the kettle's ball valve to the barb on my false bottom with the fresh hops underneath it. I figure I might need to switch the 90 degree barg on the false bottom to a 1/2 NPT threaded hose barb, but other than that I don't see why it wouldn't work.
Any thoughts?

I think that this would work. You really are just looking for a way to stream the wort over the hops. Of course you would need to make sure to clean and sanitize your MLT after your mash.

Weetodd is right, but I gotta interject that it seems like it would be mighty difficult to make sure your tun is truly clean and sanitized. There's a lot of oppertunity fo contamination in that manifold.

not to mention the fact, that if you are going to be using a rubbermaid round cooler for a hopback you should consider that it is not meant to withstand heat like that...the boiling wort would make your mlt into a one time use only sort of deal.
