Hop-odor in Bottling Bucket, safe for quick bottling?
I used my bottling bucket for a primary fermenter and it has a strong hop odor. I've rinsed and soaked several times with Oxiclean but it's still there.
I'm going to be bottling my first batch of Apfelwein this week -- is it safe to transfer my Apfelwein into the hop-smelling bucket just for long enough to bottle? Or is it likely to impart hop flavor on the Apfelwein? Thanks, chris. |
Smelling the hops aroma won't necessarily translate to hop aroma seeping into your apfelwien.
If you're overly concerned, fill up the bucket with warm water and a 1/2 cup of bleach and allow to soak overnight. |
or water and a baking soda soak over night.

I'm in the opposite situation - my bottling bucket reeks of Apfelwein..... but I bottled 2 batches in it anyways, no noticeable change as of yet. Probably clear to go ahead and just do it, but I like the baking soda overnight idea, too.
