Default Herms burners

Two pumps have been purchased and a new herms HLT. I have 2 blichmann gas fired burners, is adding a 3rd under my mashtun going to be of any benefit? Other than heating up the mash water? Couldn't I do that in my BK and pump over? Just wondering the pro's and con's of not dropping another $150 on a burner.

That's what I plan to do with my build if it ever gets off the ground

You don't need a direct fire under the MT. You recirculate through the HLT and use that burner to keep the temp. I heat up my sparge/herms water and my strike water at the same time. I transfer my strike water over from my BK to the MT and then begin recirulating.

I had a burner under mine when I had my propane rig. I would heat my strike water in the mash tun. In my boil kettle I would recirculate hot oxy-clean through the plate chiller. Now that I'm electric, I miss being able to clean the chiller, heating strike water, and heating sparge water all at the same time. So for me, the extra money was well worth it.
