Ha, just as a follow up I posted a separate want ad on Craigslist for usable beer bottles and got a response within 5 minutes from someone who had bought some brown ones for home brewing and never used them and will just let me have 'em.

Good deal!

The Grolsch bottles are nice, for things like cyders, meads, etc... but you shouldn't use them for beer. Green bottles allow too much light into them and skunk the beer.

Unless of course you are smarter than sunlight and keep them in a cool dark place.

Green bottles are fine for beer--- just handle them correctly.

Ah I see. Still not sure if I want to get them or not cause I'd have to go drive a ways and get them, but at least I found some freebies in the meantime.

My neighbor gave me about 2 cases of Grolsch bottles. I use them for giving beer away since they are so easy to use.

28 for $10? I assume these are empties. You can probably do better than that.

I got 400 Grolsch bottles for $60. Just go to your local bottle recycling depot and see if they have any for sale. Often the recyclers can't handle swing-caps, so they would rather sell them cheap than process them.

I use them for beer no problem. As long as you don't leave them on the windowsill you'll be fine.

Let me know if you want to get rid of 100 or so of those (I'm local).

In the meantime I'm scouring Kijiji and the local depots for Grolsch or Wild Rose swingtops while doing my best to empty as many as possible.
