Why has no one ever told me about autosiphons before?!?!?!?! :D

Even in my temporarily disabled state I am able to transfer 5 gallons of Star San from Better Bottle to my mash tun (cooler) with nary a negative affect on my gimp wrist...

:mug:

Hehe... I actually bought it about a month ago, but then I had to go and fall down a flight of stairs... So between being hopped up on percocet, surgery and generally not being able to use my right arm for anything other than a hook to hang car keys on, I finally can perform some menial tasks related to brewing...

Sorry to hear about the accident but good to see you toughening it out and still brewing!

yeah man thats horrible. hope you patch up quick. if you like the auto siphon, maybe you'll like the thief. same concept but designed for pulling smaples for things like hydro readings.

Oh yeah... Had a thief after my first failed attempt at pulling a gravity sample... The autosiphon was more of a 'do I really NEED this?' kind of deal for me... But after a mouthful of Star San the last time, I thought, 'Yeah, I need one'... :mug:

I'm glad you've joined the modern siphoning world, but I have to ask: why were you sanitizing your mash tun?

As far as why sanitize the mash tun, I dunno... wanted to run some through it... Is that bad?

Not really...just unnecessary! There is no need to sanitize anything used in the pre-boil part of the brewing process. I just rinse all the grain out and let it air dry before storing it.

If you have a copper manifold in your cooler, I bet the starsan got it real bright and shiny. :D

No manifold... SS braid... Asked Santa for a 52q Coleman Extreme... Have a ton of extra copper for manifold in that if I get it...

ummmmm - do you think you should actually be brewing MORE beer? didn't you learn your lesson already?

I've used my dad's autosiphon and decided not to buy one. The only un-ported vessel I have is my kettle and I use a pump to circulate through the CFC anyway. Siphonless is the REAL way to go.

Oh, and I think I ruined my dad's autosiphon when we were testing my CFC. I hadn't thought about the boiling water melting it.

Truth be known, I wasn't even drinking... I was on my way to get some apfelwein when it happened... So technically, it wasn't beer's fault...

And no, I am still not going to call EdWort a mofo... :D

I was wondering why 5gals of starsan was involved; perhaps the bad wrist precluded spraybottle or swishing the tun around.
