Default Fermtech Wine Thief

So, this pinches some wine and lets you put it back?

Can it be used successfully in my 1 gallon demijohns. Some websites say no, but I can't see why!

Please help, looks like a useful tool. Think I'll get two.

will it fit in the opening? Turkey basters work too.

That's what I'd like to find out before purchasing ; )
They cost a good bit more in the UK.

I don't have one, but I've seen them. They're pretty big, and I bet your 1 gallon demijohns aren't deep enough. I use a sanitized turkey baster for my 1 gallon carboys- even the autosiphon is too big to fit in my one gallon jugs.

I don't have one (I use the turkey baster ) or I would measure the outer diameter for you. Sorry I could not help.

Anyone else?

I guess it depends on the diameter of the 1 gallon demijohn then. My autosiphon has no problems, so can someone post the outer diameter of a fermtech wine thief please!

Well, I'm not talking about the diameter. I mean, it'll fit through the mouth of the jug. I'm talking about the depth. The jugs are just too short to fit to get the siphon started. For the wine theif, there is no "pump" action. You just put it in the carboy, and cover the top and you have your sample.
Does that make sense?

See, the wine has to be at a certain depth in order to get the sample. The thief is 19 inches long, and it would have to be filled about 3/4 I'd think, but still be off the bottom.

The thief is a little larger diameter than the siphon. I don't have anything except a tape measure right now but the diameter appears to be 1.25.

Putting your hand over the top is not needed as it has a little ball in the bottom that stops flow.

They have a new one for that too.

OP: From what I can find, it appears your DemiJohn is about the same dimension as our 1 Gallon jug. I doubt the thief will work for this based solely on the lack of height.
